HOW DO DENTAL IMPLANTS WORK?
Dental implants are made up of three components – a titanium post, an abutment, and a restoration. The titanium post is surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath the gum line. Titanium is a biocompatible material capable of fusing to the bone tissue, serving as a permanent artificial root for the replacement tooth.
The titanium post is then topped with a custom restoration that mimics a natural tooth or teeth in both function and aesthetics. The abutment is a tiny connector that sits above the gum line and connects the crown, bridge, or denture to the dental implant. Dental implants are the strongest and longest-lasting form of tooth replacement available today.
QUALITY DENTAL IMPLANT PLACEMENT FOR LASTING FUNCTIONALITY
Our dedicated team can provide a variety of dental implant options, utilizing quality materials and state-of-the-art technologies for lasting results. With personalized implant treatment, you can experience a life of health, function, and confidence.
To get started with your dental implant treatment, you’ll first complete a consultation with our dentist, where we’ll discuss your medical and dental history, perform an oral exam, and address your goals and concerns. Using our advanced CBCT imaging technology, we can capture 3D images of your teeth and jaws to create a custom treatment plan. A CBCT scan creates intensely accurate, high-resolution images that provide us with a wealth of information about your dental structure. The information minimizes the risk of problems like nerve damage and increases the chance of long-term success.
During your dental implant procedure, we will surgically place the implants into the jawbone in the area of the missing tooth or teeth. In about three to six months, the titanium post will bond fully with your jawbone and become a permanent part of your oral structure. We will then attach a custom restoration to complete your smile.
DO I QUALIFY FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS?
If you’re considering dental implants, the first thing to think of is the health of your gums and jaws. This is critical because it is necessary to possess adequate jawbone density and healthy gums to support a dental implant long-term. If you are suffering from gum disease, we will address that before placing the dental implants.
If the bone where the implant is to be placed is weak or inadequate, we will place bone graft material at the site to repair or regenerate the bone. This will provide a more stable foundation for the implant and ensure successful osseointegration.
When performing the oral exam, we may discover the need to extract one or several teeth. When a tooth is extensively decayed or badly damaged, we may recommend removing it before beginning the implantation process. We use modern techniques and tools to gently remove the tooth, working to preserve the maximum amount of surrounding bone and gum.
OUR INDEPENDENCE DENTAL IMPLANT OPTIONS
At Eastland Family Dental, we proudly offer implant-supported restorations customized to support your oral health. Each restoration uses materials selected for their durability and seamless appearance within your smile. Our team will talk you through all the options before helping you select the ideal restoration:
Single-Tooth Replacements: A dental implant topped with a crown can fully replace a single tooth. We often use CEREC® same-day dental crowns for finalizing a stand-alone dental implant. The system allows us to design and mill custom crowns right in the office, using tooth-colored porcelain. Our dental team is meticulous about designing crowns that feel, look, and function like natural teeth.
Fixed Bridge Replacements: If you’re missing multiple teeth in a row, implants can act as an anchor for a dental bridge. The bridge is suspended between two dental implants, effectively replacing up to four teeth in a row. This solution offers stability without requiring your neighboring healthy teeth to serve as the supports.
Implant-Supported Dentures: With implant dentures, you can replace an entire smile to achieve a fully functional bite once more. Full dentures are designed to replace an entire arch of missing teeth in the upper or lower jaw, while partial dentures will fit around your remaining healthy teeth. These dentures are non-removable and won’t shift around in the mouth. We can also offer the All-on-4® system, which uses four implants as anchors for the dentures.
